HIV prevalence in the Western Region

HIV prevalence in the Western Region |The Oil & Gas enclave in the Western Region has contributed to the rise in the prevalence of HIV in that part of Ghana, making it the highest, Dr. Raphael Adu-Gyamfi, a Programme Officer in the Clinical Care Unit of National AIDS Control Programme, has said.

The region, he said, is leading the whole country with a 3.1 percent prevalence, followed by the Greater Accra Region.

HIV prevalence have become a thing of concern for many who care about the state of HIV in the country.

In the past, the Eastern Region had lead in HIV prevalence for years, this became a thing of the past as other regions began to record higher rates with the Eastern Region gradually recording low rates.

Dr. Adu-Gyamfi explained on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra100.5FM, an Accra based radio station on Friday, 5 July 2019 that the buoyant commercial nature of these two regions attracts a potpourri of people from different backgrounds and spheres.

He further stated that apart from the Eastern and Northern regions that have a low prevalence, the remaining ones have high rates.
