No maternal death at Shai Osudoku District Hospital since 2013

Shai Osudoku District Hospital | The Shai Osudoku District Hospital has earned international acclaim for recording zero maternal mortality cases in the last five years.

The District Hospital that was earmarked as a benchmark for Africa by the World Health Organization is not resting on its laurels.

Its Pharmacy department produces essential drugs rather than buying from retailers.

Head of the Pharmacy of the Hospital Mrs Vivian Damoah tells Citi News, the hospital makes hundred percent profit as a result of the initiative.

“You know it should not be business as usual, going to buy cough mixture, magnesium trisilicate whiles you can prepare here, we are different we don’t want to go with the flow, plus the raw materials are quite cheap,” she said.

Last Month the World Health Organisation (WHO) identified the Shai Osudoku District Hospital at Akyikuma as a possible benchmark for other health facilities in Africa regarding infrastructure and service delivery.

Dr Matshidiso Moeti, who is WHO Regional Director for Africa said the hospital had set a standard that was worth emulating nationwide and in Africa.
